Selecting a 5YS motor for an existing deep-well pump

A 5YS order needs two matches: the electrical supply and the pump-end connection. The 50 Hz range includes single-phase models through 3 kW and three-phase models through 11 kW. The catalogue gives useful length and weight data, but its outline does not dimension the coupling or mounting interface.

At 3 kW, the same length does not mean the same electrical package

These two exact rows share an approximately 2,850 rpm speed, 540 mm listed length and 22.3 kg weight. The M identifies the single-phase version; no M identifies three phase.

Allow for the motor’s length and lifting weight before increasing power

Motor data only: add the pump-end length and mass separately when planning the complete installation.

5YS4000 — 4 kWThe 380–415 V three-phase row lists 10.5 A, 600 mm length and 27.1 kg. This is a longer and heavier motor than the 3 kW version even before attaching the pump.
5YS7500 — 7.5 kWThe three-phase row lists 17.7 A, 770 mm length and 38.5 kg. Check the support and handling arrangement for the complete assembly rather than using the weight of the smaller motor.
5YS11000 — 11 kWThe three-phase row lists 24.9 A, 880 mm length and 45.6 kg. The higher motor rating alone supplies no flow or head figure: the chosen pump must have its own hydraulic curve and shaft-power requirement.

Three installation checks that the “5-inch” label does not settle

Bore clearance and cooling

The product description specifies wells over 130 mm; do not round that down to a nominal 127 mm bore simply because the family is called 5-inch. Check the actual well clearance, cable space and cooling-water path around the assembled motor. The listed maximum fluid temperature is 35°C. The catalogue supplies no minimum cooling-flow velocity, so obtain the requirement for the proposed well or reservoir arrangement.

Mechanical connection to the pump end

The published outline labels overall length L but does not dimension the shaft, mounting holes, register or axial-thrust capacity. Match those details to the existing pump drawing before ordering a replacement. Equal power, speed and overall length are insufficient evidence that two pump ends will couple correctly.

Depth is separate from pumping head

The installation diagram requires full submergence and vertical installation, shows at least 5 m clearance above the well bottom and states an 80 m maximum depth. This is installation guidance, not an 80 m pump-head guarantee. Include the dynamic water level, assembly setting depth and required discharge duty when requesting the motor-and-pump combination.

Make the control box and material configuration part of the order

Identify the starter with the exact motor

The family lists a start control box or digital auto-control box. Specify the single- or three-phase model, cable length and site supply; obtain the matched wiring and protection settings. Rated current is not the starting-current figure, and the family description does not give a capacitor value or universal starter connection.

Check the wetted materials, not only the stainless casing

The casing and bottom support are listed as AISI 304 stainless steel, while the top support is offered in cast iron or cast copper alloy. Confirm the supplied top-support and seal arrangement for the water chemistry. An oil-filled, rewindable construction and IP68 label do not establish corrosion suitability or potable-water certification.

Keep a requested 60 Hz version separate

Other voltages and 60 Hz are optional requests. The tabulated currents, efficiencies and approximately 2,850 rpm speed belong to the published 50 Hz rows. Ask for the selected frequency’s rating and pump curve instead of carrying the 50 Hz figures into a 60 Hz quotation.
