6YS replacement decisions: supply capacity, bore size and assembly weight

The 6YS range reaches 5.5 kW in single phase and 15 kW in three phase at 50 Hz. It is an oil-filled, rewindable motor family for wells over 150 mm. For a replacement, check the available electrical supply before deciding the motor rating, then verify the pump connection and lifting load.

A 5.5 kW requirement has two very different supply demands

Both rows list approximately 2,850 rpm, 653 mm length and 33.9 kg. The M suffix identifies single phase. These currents are rated values, not startup values.

At 11 kW, a shorter 6YS is still the heavier assembly

The manufacturer’s separate 5YS and 6YS tables allow this specific motor-only comparison. It is not a statement that the pump connections are interchangeable.

6YS11000The 6YS table gives 818 mm length, 53.5 kg mass and 25.1 A rated current at 380–415 V, three phase, 50 Hz. Listed efficiency is 78%.
5YS11000The smaller-bore family’s 11 kW row gives 880 mm length, 45.6 kg and 24.9 A at the same published supply range and frequency, also with 78% efficiency.
Replacement consequenceThe 6YS row is 62 mm shorter but 7.9 kg heavier. Those differences are calculated directly from the two catalogue rows. A shorter motor may help with axial space, while its larger bore requirement and increased weight can prevent a simple replacement. Confirm the complete motor-and-pump envelope and handling provision rather than choosing by length alone.

Confirm the exact pump interface despite the NEMA wording

The product page states NEMA dimensional standards, but its displayed outline only gives L. It does not show the coupling spline, register, mounting pattern or allowable axial thrust. Request the selected rating’s interface drawing and compare it to the pump end. Do not treat the standard reference as proof that every existing 6-inch pump fits.

Specify the supply and starter as a package

The manufacturer lists a start control box or digital auto-control box. For the 37.5 A single-phase 5.5 kW version in particular, provide the available supply, cable run and starting conditions so the starter and cable can be selected together. The current table does not give locked-rotor current, a capacitor rating or a universal overload setting.

Check the water and support materials

The published fluid-temperature limit is 35°C. The casing and bottom support are AISI 304 stainless steel, but the top support is cast iron. Specify the water chemistry and cooling conditions; do not describe the entire assembly as stainless or infer drinking-water approval from the seal-oil description.

Use a separate rating for 60 Hz

Other voltages and 60 Hz are available on request. The listed 2,850 rpm and performance table belong to 50 Hz. Obtain the requested version’s motor data and the matching pump curve before using a different frequency; motor power alone supplies no flow or discharge-head guarantee.
